Are there any Android Phones?

Q: Are there any Android Straight Talk phones?
A: Update: There are now tons of these phones available directly from Straight Talk. Prices ranges from about $20 for reconditioned models to about $400 for more recent models.

You can now also get the iPhone 4 and 5 as well as a Windows phone.

Previously, and answer was no. The closest to an Android- or iPhone-type Straight Talk phone was the Samsung Finesse R810c. This is a touchscreen phone which comes with some widget-like apps including one for Facebook. The Finesse is currently unavailable directly, but you may be able to still get it through Walmart for about $270. Despite it's cool features, the initial price of over $300 probably discouraged widespread adoption by those looking for a prepaid or no-contract cell phone. Since there was no long-term contract, it couldn't be offered for "free" or a very low price compared to current smart phonesphones.

A couple of Nokia smartphones, the E71, the 6790, and the E5, were available for a while, but those, of course, were not Android phones.

ZTE Merit Cont

I also sat down and entered over 100 zip codes from SC, NY, NJ and most all of them worked. So that was a good thing for me. Hope this helps.

The ZTE Merit Z990G
by: Anonymous

This is an android thru Straight Talk and it is a pretty descent phone. I wont buy anything that runs off Sprint, as its horrible(here anyway). The ZTE Merit runs off of ATT. It is now on the Straight Talk website and on the Walmart site too. Its not priced bad for what it does. If I remember it is $129.99, or it you wanna go all out (but throw out some bank) you can buy an "unlocked" iPhone and just buy the Straight Talk sim card for $15.

No Sprint coverage? Wait for the LG Optimus 2X
by: sb (admin)

The first two Straight Talk Android phones run on the Sprint network. When I plug in the area code 24541 (Danville, VA) I see that they're selling GSM (AT&T or T-Mobile) and regular CDMA (Verizon) phones only. I assume they're not offering the Precedent and Optimus Q phones because the Sprint coverage is not particularly good in that area.

However I've read that the next Android phone (the LG Optimus 2x, a 4G phone)may run on T-Mobile's network, so it might be offered in your area.

Why can you not buy the new android phones in the 24541 area codes. You should not be marketing the phones unless you fix the problem so all of your customers have the same options.

Samsung Galaxy Precedent
by: Max

The phone iteself is a very smart built system. The problem with this phone is that it operates on the Sprint system the same as Boost Mobile. The Sprint system drops calls all the time and from various locations. I was using another Straight Talk phone that was made by Samsung. The difference is that phone was on the Verizon system and I could make telephone calls in a closed elevator. I think that in order to make this phone better it needs to change from the Sprint network to the Verizon network.
