Screen icon envelope with red x and pink arrow

There is an icon on the main screen that I can't find out what it means. It looks like a text message icon, but on the right side of the envelope icon, there is a red "x" and to the left of the "x" there is a pink arrow pointing to the "x" (to the right). Can someone please tell me what this means?

This is similar to a question that was asked about the LG 420g. I don't know if it was ever resolved satisfactorily. One person guessed it was for un-deleted drafts, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

There was another question about a single gray arrow pointing backwards that turned out to be due to a rejected call. I'm wondering whether it's possible that this is due to a rejected text message? Will have to look into it further, unless someone out there already knows the answer.

I've read the comments here and elsewhere and multiple people have posted solutions that seemed to genuinely work for them. Meaning, I don't think they were prank posts or people just f'n around.. None of those solutions worked for me, though.... Eventually I tried deleting some of the e's in my 'sent' folder (had close to 300 in there... yeah...lazy). After deleting message 280 or so the envelope/x/pink arrow disappeared. It's starting to look to me like the x/arrow appears when any number of problems occur; problems generally related to the need to delete messages in one folder or another. Good luck, all (and thx to the peeps that posted solutions!)

I tried going back through my sent files but none of them worked to get rid of that icon - I also have a backward arrow next to my hd card icon cant figure that out either. Thank you

I've had this happen several times. Each time I just happen to lose the signal or all bars while trying to send the message. If the message does not go through successfully, it will not attempt to send again when you re-establish a connection. Any new messages are stuck in the queue behind it until you delete the message that did not go through properly.

I just figured out the pink arrow and red X on the message icon on the LG500G phone. It means a message you sent did not go through. I cleared an unsent message and it was gone. Hope this helps.
