Why won't it work in my area?

by llynn jobe

I tried to activate it but couldn't. Bought it at my local store. I was told when I called Tracfone that it would not work in my area. Now why would they sell a phone that won't work in my area. They wanted to replace it with a lg200. I already have that one and don't like it. Is there anybody out there that has had the same problem.

by: Kimmer

yes just find an area near you and use that zip code and it will then work in your area if its for that phone . I had to use a zip 130 miles away.and it works in my area better than their cheap lg's they want to trade you with week inner antanas that wont even work in the area they say they will. go with motorolla and change zip.

You need a CDMA phone in your area
by: sb (admin)

Hi Llynn,

Thanks for your question. It looks like you need a CDMA phone in your area. The W376g is a GSM phone. Tracfone primarily uses the GSM networks from AT&T and T-Mobile, but in some areas they use CDMA networks (from Verizon, I believe). You happen to be in one of those border areas which is why you were able to buy one at a local store.

This is one advantage of buying online. Once you enter your zip code, you are presented with the phone for your area.

Tracfone now offers a couple of other CDMA phones, the best of which is the LG 290C. You might try that one out. It does cost a bit more, however.
