Deactivating Browser Softkey

Just activated today. Appears to be just what we need. However, how do I deactivate the "browser" function. I have no use for this feature and I do not want to use my minutes each time I accidentally key that button.
Thanks.

avoiding browser charges
by: Anonymous

If you accidentally hit the browser button, immediately close the phone. This turns off the browser, and if you're quick enough you won't get charged.

Browser
by: Mary

After accidentally hitting browser and losing minutes a few times, I came across these instructions on how to deactivate it. I made it "phone book" and it's good because you are saved a few steps when going into your phone book therefore saving battery life as well. Brilliant!

Re Activate button
by: admin

JW,

Yeah, the phone doesn't give you any feedback about how long is long enough for pressing down the pwr end button. You don't find out until you take your finger off to see if the phone will turn on.

On mine, if I press down for about six seconds - counting "one-and-two-and . . . " - that's long enough to turn on the phone. Don't know if that varies.

Activate button
by: Anonymous/jw

Since you were so helpful on disabling my message button on the W376g, I have one other problem that I cannot solve.
When I activate my phone by holding down the "Pwr END" button, it takes a long time to connect - like up to 30 seconds of hold in the button. And there is no audio to indicate the power is on. Any ideas?
Thanks
jw

Deactivating Browser Default Softkey on W376g
by: admin

There mostly bad news but one piece of good news about avoiding the W376g browser.

It doesn't appear that you can deactivate the dedicated browser button with the icon of a globe on it. When you press that button, on purpose or accidentally, you will end up losing about half a minute of airtime.

You CAN reset the top left key so that it doesn't also turn on the web browser. To do this:

Click the menu button at the center of the "wheel".
Select "Settings" on the lower right corner.
Select the "Personalize" option.
Select "Home Screen"
Select "Home Keys"
Scroll down a bit and
select "Left Soft Key". This is also set to Browser by default, but you can select CHANGE and set it to something else such as your Phonebook or maybe Multimedia for quicker access to the Radio.

In this way, you've probably cut down your accidental web browsing by maybe a half.

I think Tracfone hurts itself more than it realizes by not allowing you to disable this. You get a bad impression of the data features and are much less likely to CHOOSE to download additional games and ringtones.
